Aden Flint was due to start tonight’s Carabao Cup first round tie with Plymouth Argyle, but ended up being withdrawn from the starting XI.
Assistant head coach Jamie McAllister, who spoke at the post-match conference, revealed Flint had initially been selected for the Ashton Gate fixture, which ended 5-0 in favour of the Sky Bet Championship side.
However, following a conversation between head coach Lee Johnson and Flint, it was decided the defender would not feature in the matchday squad.
McAllister told BCTV: “Aden was due to start tonight’s game but he had a conversation with the gaffer earlier and it was decided that he wouldn’t be involved.”
The Scotsman was unable to add anything further after the game, but Johnson is due to meet the media tomorrow (Wednesday) to preview City’s trip to Birmingham City this Saturday, where the subject is sure to come up once more.
