🎥 Fleming’s delight as City clinch late winner

Curtis Fleming was ecstatic with the response shown by his players as City battled their way to a 3-2 win over Peterborough United.

An own goal and George Tanner’s first strike for the club saw City go into the break level at 2-2, with the Posh scoring both of their goals through former Robin Sammie Szmodics.

However, Chris Martin scored the 84th-minute winner as City found a way through the pouring rain to snatch all three points at the Weston Homes Stadium.

Assistant Manager Fleming was asked about the quality on show by the Robins at both ends of the pitch, which was something demanded after the Millwall defeat in midweek.

“We asked the guys for energy, intensity and quality in the final third and I think we saw that today,” Fleming told Robins TV.

He described his “ecstatic” emotions at full-time adding: “It’s a great win away from home. Peterborough are a good side, they asked us a lot of questions and they played some good football with intricate play around the box.

“We defended manfully to get the result. It’s important we concentrated on the three points. Team are going to get you on the back foot, get crosses into the box but you need the lads to drown out the bodies, get in their faces and keep the ball out. Then you get that feeling after 90 minutes with a victory away from home.

“With the break coming up it’s nice. It can be a long couple of weeks before the next game but now we can concentrate on getting some of the lads back.”

Up next

There are no matches next week due to the international break, which involves a handful of City’s players across the age groups.

The Robins will then host AFC Bournemouth in two weeks’ time, with tickets on sale now (October 16th, 3pm).
