Frank Fielding believes the squad to have more strength in depth than last season, as City enter the final third of the 2018/19 campaign.
Fielding is in line to face Blackburn Rovers on Saturday (February 9th, 3pm KO), the club where the goalkeeper’s career began.
Rovers host City at Ewood Park, where Fielding could make only his fourth appearance of the season, following months of injury and illness.
But the shotstopper has put those troubles behind him as he looks to push on with his teammates.
“The last three games have been entertaining and enjoyable to play in so I’m feeling really good, really fresh,” he said.
“We’ve not had any midweek games so we’ve been able to focus on the training ground and focus for the games on Saturdays.
“It wasn’t the best start [for me]. I was injured in pre-season, picked up meningitis and obviously I was disappointed because it’s been a stop-start season but I’m enjoying my football now, being back with the lads and that’s the main thing.
“I’ve enjoyed watching this group from a distance but now to be involved with the lads, be back playing it’s been a joy to play with the lads and I’ve realised just how good they really are. I’ve missed the odd game but it’s been amazing to see how well the new lads have integrated.
“It’s a transition period but I think they have done it really quickly, maybe quicker than the gaffer thought! It’s been outstanding to watch and I’m excited.
“You need the strength in depth and that’s what we missed last year. Now there is competition for every place. The Championship is relentless, its game after game after game, so depth is important and we have that across all areas of the pitch.”
More than 700 tickets have been sold for the away trip to Blackburn and Fielding is looking forward to seeing so many travelling supporters.
“It’s just amazing to see our away fans, they spur us on and give us that little edge going into these games,” he said.
