Frank Fielding is back in contention for the Sky Bet Championship clash against Sunderland, says assistant head coach Dean Holden.
The goalkeeper has missed City's last three games because of a groin injury sustained at Pride Park, during the 0-0 draw against Derby County.
He will be assessed on the morning of the game.
Holden has also been buoyed by Eros Pisano and Gary O'Neil as they edge closer to full fitness.
Speaking to BCTV on Friday, Holden said: "Frankie has trained this morning and we will look at him tomorrow morning.
"Pisano has been back in light sessions and O’Neil is back on the training pitch as well so we have one or two back now which is great to see."
City beat Sunderland 2-1 at the Stadium Of Light back in October, thanks to headers from Bobby Reid and Milan Djuric.
Fast forward four months and City are in the play-off mix, while the Black Cats - now under former Wales boss Chris Coleman - are doing all they can to avoid the drop.
Season Card Holders will receive the next round of pro-rata refunds before the end of January.
