FA Cup Is Memorable For Me - Emmanuel-Thomas

Jay Emmanuel-Thomas understands the importance of the FA Cup ahead of City’s fourth round encounter against West Ham United on Sunday (2pm).

The striker captained Arsenal’s youth team – a side including City defender Luke Ayling - to victory in the 2008/09 FA Youth Cup.

He also made his senior debut for the Gunners in the competition and it is a stage he likes to perform on.

“I enjoy playing in the FA Cup,” Emmanuel-Thomas told Bristol City Player.

“It’s important to me as it’s where I got my first official game in Arsenal’s first team and that was memorable for me.”

Emmanuel-Thomas has been in fine form for City in the tournament since signing from Ipswich Town in 2013.

The 24-year-old has scored seven FA Cup goals in seven appearances for the club and also has a history of scoring against West Ham in it.

“We played West Ham the year before last when I was at Ipswich,” he said.

“I got two against them that game so hopefully I can go out and do the same this week.”

London-born Emmanuel-Thomas has been keeping a close eye on Sunday’s opponents.

The Hammers won their last match with a 3-0 victory over Hull City but City’s front man is relishing a good contest and hoping for an upset.

He said: “I watched them on Sunday and they performed quite well in the second half.

“It will be a really good game. They’ve got a lot of international players and they’ve got Alex Song [a former Arsenal team mate] in the middle of the park so they’ve got a very strong team.

“Anything can happen on the day. They could have an off day and a mistake can be made.

“We’ll give them the utmost respect until the game starts and then it’s 11 versus 11 and we’ve got to do the best we can.”
