Evans and Harrison commit to City

Gemma Evans and Abi Harrison have signed new long-term deals with Bristol City.

Both became additions in the last year, with Evans arriving last summer before Harrison’s arrival in January.

For Wales international defender Evans, it was the “family” nature of the club which has been such a big appeal.

The 22-year-old played in every game of City’s 2018/19 WSL campaign and said it was “a no brainer” when the contract renewal came her way.

Evans said: “We overachieved last year and that made me excited to stay when I got the offer from Tanya (Oxtoby).

“It’s really important that we keep the core group. We have lost a few players but we will build on that, regroup and we will go again next season and keep pushing our targets.

“There is a great atmosphere here. The staff and players are good, we get on really well and we are like a little family. I wanted to stay and keep pushing with the girls we have.

“We need to be consistent or go higher and keep fighting for each other to do the best we can do. We fought for each other last season and it really showed on the field.”

Striker Harrison, 21, joined the club from Hibernian Ladies at the start of the year and has enjoyed her spell in Bristol to date.

She scored her first goal for the club in the 3-0 away win against AFC Wimbledon Ladies in the SSE Women’s FA Cup.

On extending her stay, the Scotland international said: “I’m delighted. It’s been a great six months since I started and I’m looking to build on that and I can’t wait to get going.”

She has “settled well” adding “hopefully I can add a few more goals, I’m finding my feet but I want to kick-on.

“It’s a great environment and Tanya has created that. All the girls have bought into that and that’s really important, to know what you’re going to be involved in. I’m loving it and everyone has been great.”
