Double award for Diédhiou

Famara Diédhiou has won the Player of the Year award on top of ending the campaign as the club’s top goalscorer for the second season in a row.

The Senegal striker scored 14 goals in all competitions, a figure which stood at 13 ahead of the Preston North End game on Wednesday night when the awards were confirmed.

On accepting his awards, organised by the Bristol City Supporters Club & Trust, Diédhiou said: “I feel happy and proud for this. As a team we work hard and try to work our socks off and I’m just happy to receive this, massive thanks to everyone. I’m happy [with my goals] but in my head I need more."

His personal favourite goals were his “Van Persie” style header to clinch the 1-0 win over QPR in February, as well as the team move which led to his winning strike against Fulham at Craven Cottage in December.

Teenage midfielder Han-Noah Massengo has won the Young Player of the Year award, following his impressive debut season in BS3. The former Monaco player had made 27 appearances in all competitions, clocking up 1,919 Championship minutes. He has worked hard to be able to compete with the physicality of the Championship in what has been his first taste of English football.

Massengo said: “It has been great, my first professional season [at City] and I’m very happy to compete with this team, to play a lot of games, I’m happy and thanks to the fans.

“I’m getting experience game after game and I’m happy to have played so much. Thanks to the staff for the trust they put in me and thanks to the fans as well.”

The Robins’ first win away to Cardiff City in 17 years was voted fans’ Champagne Moment of the Year, with Josh Brownhill’s thunderous strike the difference that day in November.

As for the Supporter of the Year, the 2019/20 award has been dedicated to all NHS workers, the care community and key service workers, who work tirelessly to care for and keep people safe and the club thanks you for all the work that you do.

The PFA Community Player of the Year is Niclas Eliasson. The winger has been a familiar face at a number of Foundation events and a strong supporter of the disability football and education provision.

Eliasson said: “Thank you very much. On behalf of everyone in the squad we have seen how hard the Foundation works, their work and effort they put in all year. It’s amazing how they help everyone around the City, it’s great work from everyone."
