Famara Diédhiou is poised to have a scan after suffering a knee injury in the 4-1 win over Crystal Palace.
The Senegalese striker twisted his knee when landing, following an aerial challenge with Patrick van Aanholt in the Carabao Cup tie.
Assistant head coach Dean Holden revealed at the pre-match press conference: "He was on crutches today and in a brace. It doesn't look good but we won't know more until he has a scan tomorrow."
There's better news for the trio to Korey Smith (hamstring), Nathan Baker (knee) and Bobby Reid (ankle), who should all be available for City at the Stadium of Light.
The return of Eros Pisano and Milan Djuric from long-term injuries against Palace was a further boost to the squad.
Jens Hegeler remains in Germany to visit a knee specialist.
Season Tickets for the 2022/23 campaign are selling at a record pace, with more than 9,000 supporters already committed.
