Diédhiou smiling after quickfire double

Famara Diédhiou was left beaming after his brilliant brace secured a 2-1 win over Huddersfield Town.

Antoine Semenyo’s clever dummy allowed Diédhiou to latch on to Alfie Mawson’s pass and he took the ball around Terriers’ keeper Ryan Schofield before showing composure in front of goal.

Diédhiou's second - his eighth of the season -was just as cool, as he met Kasey Palmer’s pass before a first-time finish into the far corner.

Speaking to Robins TV moments after the full-time whistle, Diédhiou said: “It’s always a pleasure to score. I thought we started the game brilliantly with the two goals. Huddersfield are a decent team but the most important thing is the three points and it’s good!. These were two great assists and I needed to be calm to finish.”

City were up against it in the second half as Huddersfield threw everything but the kitchen sink at the Robins. They hit the woodwork four times but City held on for the win.

Diédhiou said: “Of course there was pressure because they are a very good team. We saw how they play but we took the three points and it’s what we needed to move on.”

Alfie Mawson slotted the perfect assist pass for Diédhiou's first goal

And when asked if he felt momentum building, he continued: “Yes. It starts at the training ground. The confidence is there and we have to keep going. Come on, let’s go!”

Kasey Palmer provided the assist for Diédhiou's second goal

Next up for Holden's men is a trip to Derby County this Saturday, live on Robins TV (January 30th, 3pm KO). The livestream coverage starts at 2.30pm.
