Debrief: Millwall (H)

Lee Johnson assesses City's performance in a 1-1 draw at home to Millwall.

Here's a summary of what the head coach had to say.

Lee Johnson

  • Johnson said City controlled 65 per cent of the game against a “dogged” Millwall who “defend the middle of the goal well."
  • He was “pleased with many elements of the performance” but “a lapse in concentration” allowed Millwall to score.
  • The win at Ipswich and the draw against Millwall inside four days were “two important results” heading into the game against Birmingham City next Saturday (December 8th, 3pm).
  • Johnson said City were “not far off from being pretty good and need a bit of extra help to go that extra mile to where we want to be."
  • He said City had a “strong asset sheet with the young players we have got” and that will enable them to trade in January if necessary.
  • Johnson emphasised that City were “in a build phase and we have had two or three of them here. I like being a manager that builds a culture and an identity and a lot of that was on show today, if not the sparkle at the end.”
  • He saluted the home fans, saying: “I thought they were excellent and tried to get us going and I thought it worked both ways, the players tried to get the fans going. I enjoyed today’s atmosphere. It was a proper slug-fest in areas and we competed well.”
