Dasilva’s Young Lions extend unbeaten run

England Under-21s concluded their 2019 Euro qualification campaign with a 2-0 win over Scotland this evening (Tuesday).

Jay Dasilva produced an impressive display at right-back and completed 90 minutes for Aidy Boothroyd’s side in Tynecastle, who finished eight points clear in Group D.

Having already booked their place at next summer’s tournament, Scotland - whose qualification hopes were over - managed to tame their lively visitors for a large portion of the game, until Reiss Nelson broke the deadlock in spectacular fashion on the hour mark.

The Arsenal youngster, on loan at 1899 Hoffenheim, lined up a free kick from 30 yards and showed superb technique to pick out the top corner with an unstoppable strike.

The Young Lions had opportunities to double their advantage, only for Dominic Solanke to be denied by the post, before Phil Foden’s curling strike was tipped wide by the outstretched Ross Doohan.

However, England ensured they would extend their unbeaten record to 35 qualifiers in added time, when Kieran Dowell cut in from the right and bent a left-footed shot into the far corner from distance.

Dasilva will now rejoin his City teammates in BS3 and prepare for Saturday’s Sky Bet Championship clash at Brentford.
