Community engagement for City stars

Youngsters attending Bristol City Community Trust’s Easter holiday camps received a surprise visit from Lee Johnson and five members of his first team squad on Wednesday.

Bailey Wright, Hordur Magnusson, Famara Diédhiou, Lloyd Kelly and Nathan Baker visited South Bristol Sports Centre, alongside City’s head coach, to partake in the sessions, interact with participants, pose for photos and sign autographs.

The Trust has been delivering a two-week camp throughout the Easter period, which has attracted over 450 local children, aged 6-11.

Reflecting on the camps, Community Trust chief executive Dan White said: “Firstly, I would like to thank the five players and Lee Johnson for taking time out to come and visit our camps.

“Many of the youngsters who attend our football sessions are avid Bristol City supporters so for them to meet their local heroes is a fantastic honour and it adds to their overall experience.

“We have had extremely encouraging numbers at our camps throughout the Easter holidays and everyone who has come through the door has left with a smile on their face and their footballing ability has improved, which is an added benefit.

“These children will hopefully return to school and talk about playing alongside the players, which in turn will encourage more youngsters to attend our camps during future holidays, meaning more children are keeping active in a fun and safe environment – a primary aim of ours.”

The Trust will be hosting a holiday camp throughout May half-term, with prices due to be released soon.
