Colin Murray to front Channel 5's EFL coverage

Broadcaster and presenter Colin Murray is today confirmed as the face of Channel 5’s football coverage ahead of the new Sky Bet EFL season kicking off this August.

Renowned for his entertaining and opinionated style, Murray brings a wealth of experience from the sporting world, having presented for a decade on BBC Sport, talkSPORT and BBC 5 Live.

Known for his role as the chair of Fighting Talk (BBC Radio 5 Live), he has also recently authored ‘At Home with Colin Murray’, a runaway success in sports podcasting.

Murray will present highlights from across the EFL featuring The Sky Bet Championship, Sky Bet League One and Sky Bet League Two, as well as the Carabao Cup and Checkatrade Trophy Final.

“These clubs are the lifeblood of English football, and my radio shows have always focused on football outside of the top flight, both on and off the pitch. Football on 5 is going to be more about the action and the fans than ever before, focusing on what matters… goals on the pitch and community off it.  It’ll be great to be a small part of that.’’ said Murray.

“I’m delighted to welcome Colin to the Channel 5 family. He’s a hugely talented broadcaster with a genuine passion for the game who adds to the entertainment factor of our ever-growing sports coverage.” said Caj Sohal, Consultant Sports Commissioner for Channel 5.

As well as the EFL highlights, Channel 5’s current sporting portfolio contains a wide variety of content including highlights of England Cricket’s home games, live boxing, live motorsports including Formula E, highlights from MotoGP and the World Rally Championship series, as well as the recent addition of five live games and weekly highlights from across the English Rugby Premiership.

Murray joins ahead of what is shaping up to be another exciting season across the EFL. In the Championship, John Terry has joined forces with Steve Bruce at Aston Villa in their quest to regain promotion back to the Premier League, with the relegated trio of Sunderland, Middlesbrough and Hull also competing for a swift return.

Meanwhile in League One, Blackburn Rovers and Wigan Athletic will be hoping their stay in the third tier of English football is temporary, while in League Two, the EFL welcomes Mark Cooper’s Forest Green Rovers into league competition for the first time in their history.

Murray added: “I have a soft spot for a few EFL teams, but I don’t support any so there are no conflicts of interest! However, I do make sure I visit a few EFL and non-league grounds every season, because the experiences are so varied and different, plus the connection to the fans is often more special. I’m as excited to front a show that brings you the goals from The New Lawn as I am from Villa Park.’’

Coverage will continue to be produced by Sunset + Vine with the format undergoing a refresh for the new season.
