City Women fell to a 4-0 defeat at the hands of new Spring Series leaders Chelsea Ladies in the FA Women’s Super League last night.
City started brightly at Stoke Gifford Stadium, with Lily Agg and Jodie Brett both threatening an early opener.
But Chelsea made the breakthrough on the half-hour when Millie Bright rose to score with a glancing header from Maren Mjelde’s cross.
Willie Kirk’s side remained well in the game until the visitors doubled their lead 20 minutes into the second half.
Swiss international Ramona Bachmann cut the ball back for England star Fran Kirby to fire home at the end of a slick counter-attack.
Kirby grabbed her second eight minutes later, capitalising on a defensive slip to make it 3-0, before Bachmann rounded off the scoring with Chelsea’s fourth ten minutes from time.
City Women conclude their Spring Series campaign with another home game on Saturday when Arsenal Ladies travel to Filton (3.30pm kick-off).
City Women: Leach, Brown, Ladd, Alexander, Wilson (Dykes 58), Evans, Brett, Turner (Matthews 79), Arthur, Agg (Hemp 64), Emslie. Subs not used: Watson, Fergusson, Syme, Woodham.
