City Under-23s defeated at Millwall

City Under-23s went down 3-0 to Millwall after the home side scored three goals in the final 25 minutes at Calmont Road.

Even though the Robins had the lion’s share of the possession in the Professional Development League game, they were unable to capitalise and were caught by a late George Alexander brace and Jayden Davis' strike.

Luke Williams' side created openings in the first half with Marcus Day having the best chance, but he put the ball wide.

City had to do some defending themselves and Niki Mäenpää looked assured in goal with good distribution as well as pulling off two fine saves.

The second half started in the same vein as the first, with City having the ball for large spells but were unable to create clear-cut chances.

The deadlock was broken after 65 minutes when a loose pass into midfield was intercepted and Millwall broke through to score through Alexander.

Davis then doubled the advantage after Millwall found a hole in the City back line to slip the centre forward in, before the Alexander scored from the penalty spot after Aden Baldwin was penalised for pushing.

Next up for the Under-23s is against Charlton Athletic in Dartford on Monday, October 28th (2pm).

City Under-23s: Mäenpää, Gould, Taylor, Bakinson, Low, Baldwin (capt), Day, Towler, Rees (Benarous 63), Conway, Adelakun. Unused subs: Owers, Robertson, Lott.
