City stars head out on international duty

Five City first team players have received call-ups for this month’s international break.

Callum O’Dowda, Joe Morrell, Ádám Nagy, Famara Diédhiou and Han-Noah Massengo link-up with their respective national teams, while Sam Pearson and Rene Gilmartin do the same.

O’Dowda’s Republic of Ireland will compete in a Euro 2020 Play-Off semi-final against Slovakia on Thursday (October 8th), before turning their attention to subsequent UEFA Nations League games against Wales (October 11th) and Finland (October 14th).

Morrell has been included in Ryan Giggs’ 27-man squad for Wales’ triple header of matches. Wales will face England - their first meeting since Euro 2016 - in a behind closed doors friendly at Wembley on Thursday (October 8th). Morrell could then come up against fellow City teammate O’Dowda in Dublin in the second instalment of UEFA Nations League action (October 11th) before heading to Sofia to play Bulgaria (October 14th).

Nagy has been named in Hungary's 26-man squad for their fixtures. Up first is a Euro Qualifier trip to Bulgaria (October 8th) and that's followed up by a Nations League double-header away to Serbia (October 11th) and Russia (October 14th).

Meanwhile, Diédhiou faces an away game against Morocco on October 9th before hosting Mauritania four days later (October 13th) and Massengo will undergo a five-day training camp with France Under-20s.

Pearson has been called up to Wales Under-21s for their away match to Belgium on October 9th and he will then re-join the Under-19s for their game against England on October 13th. Elsewhere, Republic of Ireland Under-21 goalkeeping coach Gilmartin will help his outfit prepare for an U21 Euro qualifier away to Italy on the same date.
