City players and staff took time from their schedule on Tuesday to make a surprise visit to the youngsters attending Bristol City Community Trust’s Easter holiday camp at South Bristol Sports Centre.
Lee Johnson, Dean Holden and Jamie McAllister accompanied Josh Brownhill, Callum O’Dowda and Mark Little to FIVES Soccer Centre, where they received a warm reception from the 200 young footballers.
Packed with skill sessions, speed guns and target cages, the City stars competed in small-sided fixtures, before posing for photos and signing autographs.
"I’ve really enjoyed the afternoon,” said Brownhill. "Coming down and seeing all the smiles on the kids' faces is what these player appearances are all about.
“Hopefully our visit will help inspire them to get where we are when they are older. It has been a great day and I have really enjoyed it."
Speaking after his first visit to the Trust’s holiday camp, Holden added: “First of all, I am surprised at how many kids are here, apparently there are around 200, which is fantastic.
“Secondly, it is great to see how many City shirts are being worn. Normally you come to events like this and there are a lot of Premier League shirts on display.
"There is obviously a lot of support for the team in the city so it is just a great day. The weather has been great for everyone and you can see the smiles on the kids’ faces and a lot of them have made new friends – it’s been brilliant.”
The Trust will be hosting a football-fun holiday camp during May half-term. The dates will be released shortly, so keep an eye on the Trust’s website.
Chris Vui and Charles Piutau were in action in the opening round of the Pacific Nations Cup, with Tonga beaten by Fiji and Samoa edging out Australia A.
