🎥 'City players face tough week' - Rennie

City’s squad are in for a tough training week in 35 degrees of heat according to Head of Medical Performance Dave Rennie.

And he says the Robins are ‘looking really good’ as they start their pre-season training camp which will include double-day sessions.

Rennie told Robins TV: “It will be extremely tough for them. Because we have them here for a longer period of time it allows us to push them harder on fitness but it also allows the coaching staff to build in some of the tactical stuff that we are looking to take into next year.

“The pitches are significantly different as well, they are quite soft and energy-sapping, but anyone who has tried to run around in 30 to 35 degrees heat will know how hard and energy-sapping that can be! But we’ll look after them and they’ll get plenty of downtime as well to recover inbetween the sessions."

“We’ll build on what we have achieved in the first week (at the Robins High Performance Centre) but also in the close season. The lads are looking really good at the moment.”

New signings Kal Naismith, Mark Sykes, Kane Wilson are all in camp, along with Nahki Wells and Andi Weimann after returning from international duty.

Rennie reflected on the value of time away as the Sky Bet Championship season kick-off fast approaches on July 30th, saying: “They’ll get to spend so much quality time together that they generally don’t at home so it’s an important time for us to build some of the friendships and camaraderie that we are going to need in an attritional season in the Championship."
