City march on in Football Manager Cup

City have advanced to the third round of the EFL Football Manager Cup at the expense of Scunthorpe United.

Mikey Cobban's computerised men won the match 5-0 though it would end earlier than planned due to technical glitches, however City were already out of sight.

Kasey Palmer's long range drive was squeezed over the line by Scunthorpe's helpless keeper, before he Palmer turned provider with a free kick which was nodded in by Korey Smith.

Famara Diédhiou scored his second and third goals of the tournament - his first of the night was a penalty - before Benik Afobe rounded off the scores. Then, with a little more than ten minutes of in-game minutes remaining, the connection strangely disconnected.

We await an official comment from our opponents, Scunthorpe United...

The Football Manager Cup is a knockout competition with the final two teams left standing facing off in the showpiece final in mid-May.

The EFL Football Manager Cup schedule:

  • The second round: week commencing April 27th
  • The ‘round of 16’: week commencing May 4th
  • The quarter finals: May 11th-14th
  • The semi-finals: Saturday, May 16th
  • The final: Sunday, May 17th
