City break ground on new training facility

Bristol City today (Thursday, January 30th) broke ground on their state-of-the-art training facility.

Players and staff joined City Chief Executive Officer Mark Ashton, Chairman Jon Lansdown and Head Coach Lee Johnson to celebrate the landmark moment for the Robins.

The facility will bring together the club’s Academy and senior team on a single site for the first time, which will include a floodlit showpitch, capable of hosting the club’s Under-18 and Under-23 matches, two other full-size pitches and two further training areas.

The building will encompass a gym, changing rooms, medical and rehabilitation facilities and office space, as well as education and welfare facilities for City's young players.

With a completion date of Spring 2021 the training ground is constructed by locally-based Beard Construction - who also sponsor the Atyeo Stand covering at Ashton Gate and they are front of shirt sponsors for Bristol City Women’s Academy team.

Mark Ashton said: “For many years the football club has talked of a need to build a state-of-the-art training facility so today, to see us break ground and see work commence, is a momentous day for the football club.

“This will bring our Academy and first team together in an elite performance environment that will help drive this club even further forward under the stewardship of the Lansdown family.

“A lot of people have been involved in this venture and I’d like to thank the project team, especially Gary Davenport and Sam Morse from the football club who have worked tirelessly to get to this stage and will be fundamental as the build takes shape.”

Beard Director Mike Hedges said: “We all want to see Bristol City in the top flight, and a top-flight team needs a first-class training facility.

“Our association with Bristol City and Bristol Sport is very important to us, so I couldn’t be happier that the club has entrusted that task to Beard and I look forward to ensuring we deliver on it.”
