City have turned down a “derisory” joint bid for Aden Flint and Joe Bryan from Birmingham City.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of the season opener with Barnsley on Saturday, head coach Lee Johnson confirmed an offer had been lodged for the two defenders.
Johnson also spoke of his disappointment that the bid had reached the national press almost at the same time that it landed in BS3.
He told BCTV: “It’s a derisory bid and we’ve chucked it in the bin.
“The disappointing bit is news of the bid gets out straight after the bid comes in. You have to deal with that in football as it’s such a media-led world – you can’t stop it."
He added: “The beautiful thing about this football club is that we’re a fantastic place, in terms of financial fair play and having a great owner in Steve Lansdown who says we don’t need to sell anyone.
“Steve has said we can keep the squad and we can batten down the hatches and do everything we can to be successful this season.”
He added: “I’m just focused on Saturday (versus Barnsley) and this is like a little wasp on the side. I’m excited for the season to begin.”
