Joe Bryan is excited to be involved in an FA Cup tie against Premier League opposition for the second season running.
Bristol City put in a spirited fourth-round performance against West Ham United last season, and face in-form West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns tomorrow (3pm).
Steve Cotterill’s side go straight into the third round due to their Sky Bet Championship status, and Bryan is relishing the chance to test himself against high-profile opposition in such a prestigious competition.
“Being English, the FA Cup is always one thing you want to do well in,” he told bcfc.co.uk.
“We gave West Ham a good contest last season and that’s what we want to do against West Brom.
“We’re expecting an organised, hard-working side who have brilliant players, which is why they’re doing well in the Premier League.”
The wing-back added: “To an extent, the pressure is off when there isn’t three points up for grabs.
“When the pressure is off you play with a bit more freedom and hopefully we can use this weekend to build confidence and take it into the upcoming league games.”
City will run out to a packed away end in the West Midlands with 5,300 reds making the trip.
It will be the most fans City have taken to an away fixture since Brian Tinnion famously scored the winning goal at Anfield in 1994 – also an FA Cup tie against top-flight opposition.
“That’s a lot of people!” Bryan said. “It’s going to be really good.
“They’ll be in good voice and give a good account of themselves so hopefully we can perform well for them.”
Chris Vui and Charles Piutau were in action in the opening round of the Pacific Nations Cup, with Tonga beaten by Fiji and Samoa edging out Australia A.
