Joe Bryan has signed a new contract, tying him to the club until the summer of 2019.
The Bristolian only signed a new two-year deal last summer, but such has been the 21-year-old’s rise in stature that club officials have rewarded him once more.
Bryan was a key part of City’s double-winning 2014/15 campaign, playing 50 times and scoring seven goals from the left-wing back position he made his own.
Notably he was on target the night City clinched promotion with a stunning 6-0 win at Bradford City and also scored a crucial second goal in the 3-0 win over local rivals Swindon Town at Ashton Gate.
Manager Steve Cotterill said: “Joe was another player we were keen to get signed up to a longer contract and I’m pleased we’ve been able to do that now.
“Joe fully deserves this extended contract for the season he’s had. He’s an intelligent, down-to-earth lad who clearly has his head screwed on.
“Last summer he spoke about the importance of the 2014/15 campaign and he took his chance. Now he’s got to do it again in the Championship and perform to his best.
“It’s good for the football club to have our younger players tied down and pleasing for the lads as well.
“It probably won’t stop at Joe, but his is one, along with Marlon (Pack) and Aden (Flint), that we’ve been able to fit in early in the summer.”
City chief executive John Pelling said: “Signing a player like Joe is an important part of our strategy for supporting the Academy.
“We want to make sure we look after our Academy players and offering Joe an extended contract on the back of a successful season is the type of thing we want to do as and when their performance merits it.”
