Brownhill Relishing Competiton For Places

Josh Brownhill believes City’s strength in depth is such that Lee Johnson could field two separate starting XIs that would compete in the Sky Bet Championship.

The midfielder, one of 13 new players signed in the summer transfer window, has experienced both ends of the spectrum over the past week.

From missing out on the 18-man squad at Rotherham United on Saturday, Brownhill shone as a starter at Hillsborough three days later.

“Obviously I was gutted to be out of the squad at Rotherham, but for the gaffer to trust me in a big game at Sheffield Wednesday, I was really happy,” he told Bristol City Player HD.

“Everybody in training is working hard and doing really well, so it’s a tough decision for the gaffer to pick his team, but that’s a good thing for him.

“We’re playing 11 v 11 on the training pitch and either one of those teams could play in the Championship, which is good.”

Brownhill admitted it was a disappointed away dressing room on Tuesday night after City let a two-goal lead slip, but is confident of turning the tables on Derby County at Ashton Gate on Saturday (3pm).

“I thought, in the first half especially, I did ok,” he said of his own performance. “We got the lead but obviously circumstances changed the game very quickly and unfortunately it didn’t go our way.

“The main thing is how you bounce back. You’ve got to perform well and win the game – that’s the most important thing.

“Playing in front of the fans here, it’s a special place. With the players we’ve got, if we’re on form, we should win the game.”
