Josh Brownhill looked back on a ‘frustrating’ evening as Millwall secured a 2-1 win at Ashton Gate.
With City at 2-0 down with 20 minutes to go, Callum O’Dowda struck to halve the deficit and while City rallied with some late pressure, they were unable to force an equaliser.
City will assess their display and quickly shift their attentions towards the weekend’s fixture versus Blackburn Rovers.
But for on-field captain Brownhill, the Robins started too late and were made to pay on the night.
“It’s frustrating,” Brownhill admitted. “We didn’t start the best at all. We wasted the first 45 minutes, went a goal down as well. Then we were 2-0 down and we gave ourselves too much to do.
“We gave it a go in the last 15 minutes but we didn’t capitalise on that and overall it wasn’t a good performance at all.
“They (Millwall) are hard to break down, that’s the way they are. They have some big boys, they defended well but we gave ourselves too much to do.To go in the last 20 minutes at 0-0 we give ourselves a chance but we didn’t do that. The two goals were very poor from our point of view so we will definitely look at those and go again.”
