In response to the news article that appeared in The Sun newspaper today and subsequent social media posts we would like to confirm that West Ham will not be bringing their bubble machine to Ashton Gate.
Bristol City FC received an official request from West Ham earlier this week to bring their bubble machine to the game on Sunday.
This was then passed to the head of operations for Bristol Sport – the company managing the stadium.
City manager Steve Cotterill was asked about this at the end of the media conference on Wednesday and gave an off-the-cuff response saying it could add to the atmosphere.
Late yesterday Bristol Sport confirmed that it had now received all the additional information that it requested on the specification of the bubble machine and would not be able to facilitate the request. No comment was sought by The Sun from Bristol Sport regarding the story.
Andrew Billingham, CEO of Bristol Sport said:
“We’re really looking forward to tomorrow’s FA Cup game and can’t wait to have our fans arrive at the stadium to see it covered with red and white scarves. We want everyone to have an amazing day and I personally think a bubble machine would distract from that. I’m sure our fans would agree.
“West Ham have fantastic supporters and will no doubt add to a great afternoon. We’re really looking forward to welcoming them to Ashton Gate.”
