Bristol Pride Is Everything - Pemberton

John Pemberton hopes a strong Bristol core to his team will help create a raucous atmosphere at Ashton Gate.

The interim boss spoke of the “18 cup finals” City face between now and the end of the season following the 1-0 defeat at Leeds United last time out.

Nine of the 18 are at home, starting with tomorrow’s visit of Birmingham City to BS3 (3pm).

City recently announced the signing of former Academy product Scott Golbourne – a Bristolian who supported the club as a boy.

Pemberton named a total of seven graduates from the youth setup in the squad for his last home game against West Brom in the FA Cup, and hopes that passion will serve his side well over the coming weeks.

“When I was a player, one of the big things I noticed when I went to Sheffield United was how their fans took to having Sheffield boys in the team,” Pemberton told Bristol City HD.

“We need the support of everybody – when the fans get behind us, it makes a massive difference. If that’s helped by putting one or two local Bristol boys in the team, so be it.

“It’s important anywhere you go. I speak to quite a lot of top managers, and one of the things they say is if you can get a local element within your team, that will give you a good start.

“That’s a factor in why we signed Scott, and obviously he’s a good player too.”
