Bristol City has won the Women’s FA Futsal Cup following a stunning performance at the Copperbox over the weekend.
The FA Futsal Cup began in 2004 as the first FA National Futsal competition to held in this country. Six-hundred teams took part in this year’s competition – and City’s ladies’ team won through various qualifiers to reach the National Finals stage in London.
On Saturday they were involved in the preliminary final stage, which they came through with flying colours. They topped their four-team group with maximum points after overcoming Loughborough (4-1), Norton Stockton (5-2) and Dockland Ladies (6-2).
The team returned to the Copperbox on Sunday for the semi-final, where they thrashed Just A Ball by four goals to one.
It set up a much-anticipated final against University of Gloucester Futsal, in which City’s females were even more clinical, running out 6-1 winners to lift the trophy.
It completes a remarkable season for the City Futsal teams, who have also seen their Under-18 male team landing the Football League Trust Futsal Plate.
Community Trust director Amy Kington said: “Futsal is a fantastic format of the game and I would encourage fans to get behind our teams and experience watching this exciting, fast-paced, skilful version of the sport.
“I am incredibly proud of the players, manager and staff who have worked hard to achieve this fantastic accolade in our debut season.
Women’s head coach Luciana De Martin Silver said: “I am delighted that our hard work has paid off and we were able to win this prestigious competition.
“It is every coach’s dream to win an FA Cup and I am delighted that we have brought this back to Bristol to inspire more women to get into futsal.
Bristol City Community Trust offers a full range of post-16 education courses including an extended BTEC in sport that provides the opportunity for students to represent Bristol City FC and compete against other Football League clubs. Places are still available for our education programme starting in September.
If you are interested in representing Bristol City, our men’s senior team trials will be taking place on July 21st (6pm) at Merchants Academy in Bristol. Women’s trials will take place in August. Please contact josh.kington@bcfc.co.uk for more information.
