Bristol City Under-18s suffered their first defeat of their 2019/20 pre-season campaign to Forest Green Rovers.
Both teams started strongly with opportunities at both ends, with Will Gould and Callum Pearson going close in the opening half an hour.
However, it was the Green Army who had the first clear-cut chance of the game with an effort from six yards put pushed over the crossbar.
As half-time approached, City were penalised for a handball and the visitors made no mistake in gaining an advantage from the penalty spot.
The Robins almost levelled soon after the break but Tommy Backwell’s effort was cleared off the line as he connected with Jemar South Thomas’ cross.
City made several changes in the 55th minute and substitute Ayman Benarous was quick to make an impact as his driven shot across goal forced a diving save.
Despite City’s best efforts, Forest doubled their advantage with five minutes remaining.
Spirits didn’t drop though and the Robins showed their resilience as they pulled one back through Benarous’ driven strike from distance.
The Under-18s host Cheltenham on Saturday morning as they look to get back to winning ways.
