City Women suffered a setback in their Spring Series campaign, losing 2-0 to their Birmingham City counterparts at Solihull Moors FC.
Ellen White’s first-half brace saw Birmingham leapfrog City Women in the table and condemn the Vixens to their fourth defeat in five Spring Series outings.
With the hosts still hurting from their defeat to Manchester City in the FA Cup final on Saturday, Willie Kirk would be left frustrated that his side failed to capitalise upon their slow start.
Lauren Hemp wasted two early opportunities for the visitors, while Chloe Arthur's close-range effort was brilliantly saved by Sophie Baggaley in the Birmingham goal.
The hosts slowly grew into the game and the deadlock was broken in the 39th minute when White rose above her marker to head Sarah Mayling’s looping corner beyond the helpless Caitlin Leach.
With momentum in their stride, Mayling’s fierce strike from distance rebounded off the post before the pacey winger again turned architect for White, who doubled her tally from six yards on the stroke of half-time.
Olivia Fergusson had the best opportunity for the Vixens in a second period of few chances, but her effort was comfortable for Baggaley as the Blues clinched their first victory of the Spring Series campaign.
City Women: Leach, Allen (Agg 72), Ladd, Turner, Alexander, Evans (Parker 60), Fergusson, Brett, Arthur, Emslie, Hemp (Wilson 72). Subs not used: Watson, Matthews, Brown, Jones.
