‘Big performance required’ – Scott wants to end season with pride

Alex Scott says City must prove they are no pushovers when they take on Brentford at Ashton Gate this Saturday (May 8th, 12.30pm).

The young midfielder has demanded “a big performance” in the final game of the season for everyone connected to the club.

The Robins have endured a difficult second half of the campaign and their last outing of the 2020/21 season sees them face a Bees side who have secured their play-off spot for the second time in a row.

The two teams meet in differing form in front of the Robins TV cameras but Scott, who only made his debut against Luton Town a couple of weeks ago, remains unfazed by the challenge.

He told Robins TV: “We know how good a team Brentford are. They are third in the league and last year they nearly got promoted so we have to be strong as a team, as individuals and enjoy it. Hopefully we’ll do ourselves and the fans proud in the final game.

“It’s got to be a big performance. We have to win as we’re in a tough run of form so we have to show we’re aren’t pushovers and we want to perform on the final day for the manager, ourselves and the fans.

“Going into next season it will be good to get a win on Saturday.”

Despite being a young player with just two Sky Bet Championship matches on his CV, Scott speaks as a player with experience beyond his years and he shares the collective responsibility for results.

He said: “We (younger players) feel the pressures of the game. We don’t want to be passengers in the game, we take responsibility when we lose but yes, we’re enjoying it.

“The gaffer says it can be damaging for us but this has been our dream since we were younger, we want to take responsibility when we lose or win, but we’re enjoying every moment.”

While Saturday’s game is the last of the Championship season, Scott will be vying for a place in the Under-23s Professional Development League play-off game at Ashton Gate next Friday (May 14th).

Their opponent is yet to be decided but it puts them within 90 minutes of the final.

“It will be a good game, hopefully we can get the win and get through to the final,” he said.

City v Brentford will be streamed live on Robins TV from 12pm for all the build-up ahead of kick-off.
