Benarous pride on turning professional

Bristol City runs through the veins of Ayman Benarous who has developed through the Academy since the age of six.

So it was no surprise he described it as a “proud moment” on signing his professional contract with the Robins.

The 17-year-old is a regular in the Under-23s and Under-18s setup and his reward of a first contract comes as a result of dedication and hard work.

“It’s a proud moment for me and my family,” Benarous said. “A lot of hard work has gone into this and I’m delighted to sign my professional contract with Bristol City and I’m looking forward to the future.

“It’s hard work every day but there’s even more hard work to come.”

The attacking midfielder has been inspired by former Academy graduates such as Joe Bryan, Bobby Reid, Lloyd Kelly, Zak Vyner and Max O’Leary in recent years.

“They were big role models for me because they show there is pathway at Bristol City and you can make it every day,” he said. Benarous has also seen fellow Under-23s players such as Sam Bell make their debuts this season and other young players in and around the first team such as Owura and Opi Edwards, Sam Pearson and Ryley Towler to name a few.

Benarous continued: “I’ve played with all of them and it shows the pathway here and if you impress the manager he will play and trust you.

“I need to keep working hard with the Under-23s and hopefully the gaffer will be impressed be seeing me train and work towards my debut.”

Benarous has helped the Under-23s side push at top of the Professional Development League South this season. They are next in action against Charlton Athletic on Tuesday (February 9th).
