Academy boys ace GCSEs

Bristol City Academy staff would like to congratulate our first year scholars for some fantastic GCSE results.

Of the ten secondary schoolboys who have signed as scholars, all achieved at least 5 GCSEs grade A-to-C (or higher than 4 for English and Maths). James, Joe, Vince, Kieran and Lochie all achieved at least 9 passes - which in itself is an excellent effort - but even more impressive when you consider these boys have spent three nights a week training with the academy, plus matches on Saturdays.

All of the boys have achieved results in line with their expected progress, which is exactly what the education department want for our academy players.

These results are a reflection of how commitment in all areas is increasingly important for all young footballers. Thomas Harvey, Academy Head of Education said: “These are a superb set of results from our scholars and I am very proud of the boys for their attitude, commitment and effort. It is not easy to balance football and academic progress and they have all done so admirably. I am sure they will do equally well this year in both football and their studies."

Next week the scholars will begin studying the ASE programme at the Academy's training ground. All EFL scholars study a BTEC in Sports Performance and Excellence, alongside an NVQ and a Level 2 coaching qualification.

It has been confirmed that we maintained our 100% pass rate for this qualification and with two of last year's scholars getting an A and B in Maths and English A-levels respectively, things are certainly looking bright in the BCFC education department.
