Bristol City players will be racking up plenty of miles as they jet off to Portugal for the next fortnight.
Manager Steve Cotterill declared himself pleased with his the work-out afforded to his players by Bath City in tonight’s pre-season friendly.
Aaron Wilbraham scored the only goal from the penalty spot, while Frank Fielding saved a spot-kick from Bath forward Dave Pratt at the other end to make sure of victory.
Having given the starting eleven more than 45 minutes on the pitch for the first time this pre-season, Cotterill and his coaching staff plan to bolster the players’ levels even further in the south of Portugal.
“Running, lots more running,” was Cotterill’s response when asked what the players can look forward to on tour.
“It was good to come through [the Bath game] with no injuries; that’s important. We were also able to step the lads up to get more than 45 minutes under their belts.”
Of Wilbraham’s winner, Cotterill said: “We practised penalties a lot last season and I knew where Aaron was going as soon as he stepped up.”
Scott Wagstaff missed the match as a precaution after suffering from a slight hamstring injury.
