Luke Ayling is deserving of a great reception when he returns to Ashton Gate tomorrow, says first team coach John Pemberton.
The right-back moved to Leeds United in August after a successful two years at Ashton Gate and will head back to BS3 for the first time on Tuesday evening.
Ayling – nicknamed Bill – was the only ever-present outfield player in City’s 2014/15 double-winning campaign.
Pemberton told Bristol City Player HD: “Bill was great for us, on and off the pitch. He was always smiling, he’s a great lad and I do miss him around the place.
“He was a big part of a successful period for the club. It was the right time for him and the club when he joined Leeds. He’s got a new challenge now.
“I hope he gets a good reception and knowing the Bristol City fans like I do, I‘m sure they will give him a warm welcome on his return.”
Pemberton’s words were echoed by right-back Mark Little.
“He’s a great guy and we’ve kept in touch,” Little said. “It would take a fickle person not to recognise the great time he had at the club.
“I’m not sure whether we’ll exchange messages in the build-up to the game; I might just turn my phone off! It will be good to see him again.”
Tickets for the match are available by calling 0117 963 0600 or online.
