Assist-Maker Freeman Wants More Goals

Luke Freeman is proud of his Sky Bet League One assist record – but is adamant he still wants to add more goals to his name.

The attacker’s 14th and 15th assists of the season came in Saturday’s 2-1 win at Crawley Town, as he provided the crosses for Aden Flint and Luke Ayling to head home.

It puts him well clear of the rest of League One in terms of generating assists. In comparison he has six goals to his name.

“I think you get more satisfaction out of scoring but at the same time it’s nice to be the assist-maker,” said Freeman on Bristol City Player.

“I’ve seen I’m the leading assist-maker in League One and I’m pleased with that.

“It’s my job to score goals but also to set them up, so it was really pleasing to get another two (assists) on Saturday.

“It’s great to have so many people to aim for. Flinty (Aden Flint) has been tremendous, he’s a real handful in the penalty area and I think he can get ten goals this season.

“It certainly helps my cause when you have lads who can attack the ball as well as Flinty, Del (Derrick Williams) and even Luke (Ayling) for the winner on Saturday.”

Back-to-back wins over Leyton Orient and Crawley Town has seen City move 12 points clear of the chasing play-off pack, and they have another chance to extend the advantage at Yeovil Town in tonight’s third consecutive away game.

“We’ve been getting the job done recently,” said Freeman.

“We wanted nine points from these three away games because we knew it would go a long way to helping us in our aims.

“We’ve concentrated on each game fully as it’s been approaching and now our focus is on this game with Yeovil.

“We know we’ve sold a lot of tickets and that’ll be like the twelfth man for us.

“To go there on a Tuesday and see the away end sold out, it’s a major boost for us.

“We’re taking the game seriously. We want to win the league and become champions – we know we have to stay focused.”
