Ashton Gate Stadium - Chief Of Stadium Operations Announced

Bristol Sport is pleased to announce that Mark Kelly will be joining the team as Chief of Stadium Operations at Ashton Gate from February 1st 2015.

Kelly brings with him a wealth of experience in event and hospitality management.  The Irishman moved to Bristol two years ago when he became general manager of the city centre Grand Hotel by Thistle. Prior to that he has spent ten years in various management roles for International Hotel Group and GM of the Thistle Hotel, Birmingham.

Reacting to the appointment Mark Kelly commented “The plans for Ashton Gate Stadium are tremendously exciting. The chance to join the team at the start of its journey is a brilliant opportunity. I’m a keen sportsman and regularly compete in half-marathons and endurance events so the chance to work in a sporting environment is a dream come true.

“When the new 27,000 capacity stadium is complete it will become the largest conferencing and entertainment facility in the south west. I can’t wait to get started and help shape that journey.”

Bristol Sport’s chief executive officer Andrew Billingham said: “The chief of stadium operations role is a crucial part of our strategy as we build for the future. We want all fans and visitors to the stadium to have an amazing experience. We can’t control what happens on the pitch but off it we will ensure that every thing surrounding your trip to Ashton Gate is of the highest possible standard.

“This week we informed Centerplate, our current catering providers, that from the end of this season we will take all of our catering in-house. Mark will lead this transition and help us achieve our vision. His career has proven that he is up to the challenge and we look forward to having him join us in the New Year.”

Bristol Sport is managing the £45m rebuild of Ashton Gate and is part of the stable of sports companies owned by Stephen Lansdown.
