Benik Afobe got off the mark in City colours, scoring in the 2-0 win against QPR.
It was a special moment for the striker, who has dedicated the victory - City's first of the 2019/20 Sky Bet Championship season - to the supporters.
"The atmosphere was fantastic" he told the club website. "The fans were singing my name, all the lads’ names throughout the game and that was great.
"That win was for the fans, we want them to be our 12th man all season, it’s a long season! We have 43 games to go, we are going to need them and they were definitely with us today."
Afobe netted after Andreas Weimann pressurised QPR keeper Joe Lumley into a mistake. Weimann managed to square the ball back across goal where Afobe was waiting to pounce and he struck the ball into the net in front of the jubilant South Stand.
He said: "The thing about Andi is his sheer work rate and he’s an unbelievable player to play with, a good lad as well. I saw him go to cross it and I backed him to get it and when he pressed I thought I might get the chance.
"When the ball comes like that you need to keep the composure, get over the ball, keep it on target and thankfully for me it went in
"Every game we want the three points, we want to do well. The club’s philosophy is about keeping the ball, moving it quickly and creating but we wanted the three points and we did that today.
"It’s only our second game at home, against Leeds was tough for us but we have new players, we’ve had more time to gel in training as a team and today the fans will be happy we got the three points and the performance."
City’s next game comes against Philip Cocu’s Derby County on Tuesday night (August 20th, 7.45pm KO).
