50 For Fam...Diédhiou's delight in milestone week

Famara Diédhiou joins a list of City icons after scoring his 50th goal for the club this week.

Diédhiou hit the half-century milestone in the 3-1 win against Middlesbrough.

The Senegal striker struck his 50th goal on his 158th appearance in all competitions when he headed City into the lead at the Riverside Stadium. He went on to score a brace in that game, taking his tally to 51.

He would enter the list of City’s all-time goalscorers with that milestone 50th goal, putting him level with Len Townsend, but his 51st strike sees him now go level with Johnny Paul, who reached the same tally with 215 appearances between 1922-1930).

Reflecting on his achievement, Diédhiou said: “It’s unbelievable. To score 50 goals for City means a lot. It came from work and confidence from every single person here. I’m so happy to score 50 goals, it means a lot and fingers crossed for more to come.”

He joins a list of club legends including the likes of Scott Murray, Gerry Gow, Bobby Williams and 'Super' Bob Taylor to name just a few, not forgetting John Atyeo who leads the way with 351 goals to his name.

Diédhiou added: “These are legends for scoring lots of goals and I just try to do my job well. I feel more goals are coming but to score 50, I’m so proud.”

And when it comes to his standout strikes, there is one in particular – a flying header -  which comes mind.

“It’s hard to say which is the best because some goals mean more, like my first goal for the club, my 50th, or a goal after coming back injury. I think that’s why the one at QPR away (2019/20), the ‘Robin Van-Persie one’ is for me,” he said.

Diédhiou was top goalscorer for the club in two of his first three seasons after joining City in the summer 2017. He also won the Player of the Year award last term and currently has 10 goals to his name in the 2020/21 campaign.
