FRIDAY'S PRESS TALK

Posted on: Fri 27 Jan 2012

Derek McInnes insists transfer-listed striker Nicky Maynard will be part of his plans for tomorrow's npower Championship game against Reading at the Madejski Stadium. The subject of an unofficial £2m bid from Wigan Athletic earlier this week, Maynard's future is uncertain as the January transfer window enters its final few days. He is refusing to sign a new deal at Ashton Gate, City's board of directors are keen to cash in on one of their biggest assets before Tuesday's transfer deadline and Wigan's offer remains on the table. But despite continuing uncertainty over the striker's future, City manager McInnes says he has no plans to omit Maynard from the squad.

Yannick Bolasie feels he is finally ready to show Bristol City fans just why former manager Keith Millen paid Plymouth Argyle for his services last summer. When Millen took advantage of a cut-price fee to lure the London-born winger to Ashton Gate in July last year, City loyalists were not quite sure what to make of the deal. Whereas Millen saw a player rich in potential and capable of establishing himself in the Championship in the future, others saw someone who had flattered to deceive in a struggling Argyle side that had suffered back-to-back relegation. As the weeks and months went by and Bolasie failed to break into City's starting XI and was restricted to occasional cameo roles as a substitute, so it seemed the sceptics might be proved right after all.

Everton are hoping to snap up Bristol City contract rebel Nicky Maynard on a Bosman. The striker Maynard has rejected a new deal at Ashton Gate and is set to be a free agent this summer. City were hoping to cash in on the 25-year-old this month after officially putting him for sale, but Maynard has steadfastly refused to move and is eyeing a potentially more lucrative end-of-season switch.

Brendan Rodgers has indicated that Stephen Dobbie will not leave the Liberty this month after insisting he does not want to lose any senior players. Dobbie has been linked with the likes of Blackpool and Bristol City, but Rodgers has stated that only some of his young fringe players are likely to depart before the January transfer window closes.

Winger Joe Lennox has two aims for the rest of the season - to play his part in Argyle retaining their Football League status and to earn a new contract with them. Lennox has ended up at Home Park after being released by Championship club Bristol City earlier this month.
