WEDNESDAY'S PRESS TALK

Posted on: Wed 01 Sep 2010

Bristol City's summer spending stopped at £1.525 million yesterday. The Championship club did not make a signing as the summer transfer window slammed shut. But in recruiting 11 players since the end of last season they had already splashed out more than three times the amount paid by any other club in the Wales and west region. Some reports claim they will announce a deficit of around £9m - up from £6m last year - for the current financial year. Chairman Steve Lansdown and new manager Keith Millen will instead look to the loan market, which re-opens on September 7, to strengthen the defence and the left side of the team.

Bristol City boss Keith Millen says he will not be rushed into any last-minute transfer-deadline deals. City are believed to be looking to strengthen their defence after shipping 12 goals in five matches. "In eight days' time we are able to use the emergency loan market so there's no need to rush," Millen said.

Doncaster Rovers made a late inquiry about Coventry City winger Michael McIndoe during yesterday's transfer deadline day. However the out-of-favour former Bristol City midfielder remains at the Ricoh Arena despite the tentative interest from Rovers and Southampton.

Peterborough United goalkeeper Steve Collis has extended his deal with the League One club until the end of December. Former Bristol City keeper Collis joined Posh on the eve of the new season and signed an initial one-month contract at London Road.

Barnet manager Mark Stimson has dipped into the non-league market to boost his strikeforce by signing Charlie Taylor from Sutton United. The 24-year-old, who has been training with the Bees for the past fortnight after a brief stint on trial at Bristol City, arrives at Underhill for an undisclosed fee.
