Bristol City boss Keith Millen was today involved in a race against time to further bolster his squad before the transfer window closes. Millen is in the market for a left-sided player and a defender and has not ruled out bringing in another new face on a permanent deal ahead of tomorrow's deadline. Should he run out of time, Millen says he will wait until the loan market re-opens for business the following week. Full-backs Jamie McAllister and Tom Williams remain the only naturally left-sided players on the Ashton Gate staff and that particular imbalance within the squad has not been addressed since Michael McIndoe left to join Championship rivals Coventry City 12 months ago.

Roy Keane is the red-hot favourite to be named Championship Manager of the Month for August. Unbeaten Ipswich share the same 10-points tally as leaders QPR and second-placed Cardiff. But only the Tractor Boys remain alive in the Carling Cup, making manager Keane a near-certainty to collect the gong. Typically, though, Keane admits he could not care less about picking up the prize and deflected all the credit on to his players. He said: "If you think I'm interested in individual awards, either as a manager or a player, you clearly don't know me." Keane was not crowing after this victory, albeit richly deserved even if City's suicidal defending ultimately proved decisive.

Roy Keane handed his team all the credit as impressive Ipswich went joint-top of the Championship. The ex-Sunderland boss was in a relegation battle at the end of last season, his first full one in charge at Portman Road. Now he is a manager-of-the-month candidate after an August in which his side have won five and drawn one in league and cup. But the former Manchester United skipper scoffs at personal gongs. "It's down to the players, not me," he said.

Bristol City boss Keith Millen plans to trim his squad by sending players out on loan. Millen, who hopes to sign a left-sided player and a defender before the transfer window closes on Tuesday evening, is also seeing his squad boosted as players return for injury. Striker John Akinde agreed a short-term move to neighbours Bristol Rovers on Friday and at least two others look set to follow him out of Ashton Gate. Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Stephen Henderson, midfielder Gavin Williams and striker Marlon Jackson were left out of the squad at Ipswich on Saturday and could now be made available. Millen did not name names, but said: "There could be a couple going out by Tuesday."
