Jon Stead says joining Bristol City was an easy decision for him to make in the end. The former Blackburn Rovers, Sunderland and Sheffield United striker finally completed his £225,000 move to Ashton Gate from Championship rivals Ipswich Town yesterday, more than six weeks after the Robins first made their interest known. Speaking for the first time after penning a three-year deal, the 27-year-old Yorkshireman explained the reasons for the delay. "I couldn't make any decisions until I had all my options lined up," said Stead, whose proposed move to Bristol stalled during the final week of July.

Keith Millen has told Bristol City fans not to expect any more new signings before the transfer window closes next week. Although clubs have another eight days in which to do business and City's manager has made no secret of his desire to bring in a left-sided player, he insists his transfer business is almost certainly complete for the time being. Millen's attacking options have been greatly improved by the arrival yesterday of strikers Brett Pitman and Jon Stead, signed from Bournemouth and Ipswich Town respectively. And he seems content to focus on those players already at the club and draw a line under what has been a tumultuous few weeks for the Championship club following the shock departure of former manager Steve Coppell. "I will be surprised now if any other players come in," said Millen. "I'm very conscious of the need to settle things down after what has been a mad two months."

Bristol City have signed Bournemouth striker Brett Pitman on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee. The clubs agreed to the move on Saturday and the 22-year-old has since agreed personal terms. "I want to challenge myself at a higher level and that's what I've come here to do," Pitman said.

Bristol City have signed striker Jon Stead from fellow Championship side Ipswich Town on a three-year-deal for an undisclosed fee. The 27-year-old was involved in Ipswich's 2-1 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday but passed a medical at Ashton Gate on Monday. Stead said: "I'm 27, I've been around a lot of clubs. It's time for me to settle down now and make sure I'm playing week in, week out - that's what I'll be focused on."

Queens Park Rangers and Charlton Athletic are still believed to be interested in Derby County striker Luke Varney. But Bristol City are no longer in the chase for the 27-year-old after signing two forwards yesterday. City landed Jon Stead from Ipswich Town for around £200,000 and Bournemouth's Brett Pitman in a deal which could eventually be worth around £800,000.
