SUNDAY'S PRESS TALK

Posted on: Mon 23 Aug 2010

Valiant City twice came from behind to earn a point as Keith Millen took charge of a home game for the first time since being made manager. Andy Gray fired the Tykes in front from the penalty spot after just four minutes and doubled the lead soon afterwards as the visitors exploited some sloppy defending. But spirited City showed what they are made of, netting twice in the space of two minutes through Marvin Elliott and recent signing Albert Adomah to restore parity. Adam Hammill put Barnsley back in front six minutes after the break, only for City to come back once again, David Clarkson netting from the penalty spot after Ivan Sproule had been brought down by Jay McEveley.

Tykes pegged back as Millen`s men fight back Bristol City and Barnsley shared the points in a six-goal thriller at Ashton Gate. Keith Millen's first home game as Robins boss got off to the worst possible start as his side fell two goals behind inside the opening 12 minutes. Andy Gray scored both times, the first from the penalty spot. However, things suddenly improved for Millen`s side and quick-fire goals from Marvin Elliott and Albert Adomah put City back on level terms before the halfway point of the first half. Adam Hammill`s deflected strike shortly after the break restored Barnsley`s lead before David Clarkson completed the scoring from the penalty spot.

Mark Robins was furious that Barnsley threw away a two-goal lead. The Tykes were in cruise control as Andy Gray fired them 2-0 up in 12 minutes. First he netted from the spot after Hugo Colace was fouled by Cole Skuse. Then he netted from close range. But keeper Luke Steele's gaffe gifted Marvin Elliott a goal for 2-1 and Albert Adomah curled in a leveller. Adam Hammill's deflected shot put Tykes in front but Lee Johnson was fouled to allow David Clarkson to net from the spot. Boss Robins groaned: "We conceded poor goals." City boss Keith Millen said: "The response from the players, and their effort, was terrific."
