Battling City were cruelly denied their first Championship win of the season at the Keepmoat Stadium. Leading through Damion Stewart's 49th minute header, the Robins looked to set to return home with all three points in Keith Millen's first game as manager. But Doncaster kept plugging away and were rewarded when Billy Sharp beat former England goalkeeper David James from the penalty spot two minutes from full time.

New Bristol City boss Keith Millen praised his players for earning a 1-1 draw at Doncaster after a tough week. Millen was named as Robins boss on Thursday following Steve Coppell's shock resignation from the job. Damion Stewart's goal looked to have won it for City but Billy Sharp equalised with a last-minute penalty. "I think the players showed they are with me with the commitment and work rate they put into the game," said former caretaker manager Millen.

Billy Sharp's late penalty cruelly denied Keith Millen his first victory as the Robins' new boss. City appeared to be heading for a win when Damien Stewart headed home a James McAllister free-kick shortly after half-time. But with just a minute to go, McAllister tripped Doncaster sub James Coppinger in the area. Sharp fired home his first goal of the season from the spot, sending visiting keeper David James the wrong way. It was nearly a perfect end to a difficult week for Millen, who took over after Steve Coppell quit. He said: "We had a chance to make it 2-0 and that would have killed the game. We gave away a soft penalty after working so hard and they didn't look like scoring."

It was a cruel blow for City, who had taken the lead early in the second half when Damion Stewart headed home McAllister's cross, in Keith Millen's first game in charge as permanent boss.
