Keith Millen will almost certainly have a part to play in Bristol City's next managerial team. Put in charge of first-team affairs on a caretaker basis following the departure from the club last month of Gary Johnson, the Londoner has helped inspire a remarkable transformation in fortunes. Not only has Millen seen off the threat of relegation, he has overseen a six-match unbeaten run, which has lifted City to ninth in the Championship table and raised the possibility of a late charge towards the play-offs. The players have declared their support for him and it is understood Millen has already been assured of a position in any new management structure. Faced with making one of the most important decisions in the club's recent history, chairman Steve Lansdown will this week conclude his interviews with prospective new managers. And he is considering two options. One is to appoint an experienced director of football and install Millen as first-team manager. The other is to bring in a new manager from outside and allow Millen to work as his assistant. Lansdown met with Millen last week to discuss those options and the caretaker boss described the talks as "extremely positive". Speaking in the wake of Saturday's 1-0 victory over Swansea City, Millen said: "No names were mentioned, because that is the chairman's business. I don't need to know who has applied and who is being interviewed."

Bristol City caretaker boss Keith Millen confirmed his ambition to stay in charge for next season after victory over play-off hopefuls Swansea improved his record in charge to 14 points from a possible 18. "I'm aware that the chairman has been speaking to other people, but it would be a disappointment now if I wasn't involved as either manager or coach," Millen said.

Ivan Sproule reckons he is no longer Mr Grumpy. Sproule set up striker Nicky Maynard's 84th-minute winner, then said: "I'm 29 and have just had the most frustrating season of my career." Sub Sproule has started just eight games and warmed the bench 22 times. He added: "Yes, I've been grumpy. Who wouldn't be?" But ex-Northern Ireland winger Sproule has recently seen a brighter side since caretaker-boss Keith Millen succeeded Gary Johnson.

Ivan Sproule says Bristol City's players are all behind Keith Millen in his bid to become the next manager. The Robins' Northern Ireland winger changed a tight game by setting up Nicky Maynard's 18th goal of the season six minutes from time. Millen has now taken 14 points from a possible 18 as caretaker boss and Sproule said: "The spirit he has built in a short time is tremendous. You only have to see the craic around the dressing room and the way the lads are enjoying training to see the effect he has had."

Manager Paulo Sousa believes Swansea will still claim a play-off spot despite their top-six hopes suffering a blow with defeat at Bristol City. Nicky Maynard was the Robins` hero once more as his late strike earned them a 1-0 win, which saw City slip a place to sixth in the table. Sousa`s side hold a two-point advantage over seventh-placed Blackpool with three matches remaining, and the the Portuguese said: "We had good opportunities before Bristol scored and it is our main problem at the moment but we aren't scoring when on top.
