Gary Johnson admitted Bristol City's 3-2 stoppage-time defeat to Plymouth Argyle was soul-destroying. Wales international Carl Fletcher's late winner - a superb long-range shot - consigned City to another heart-breaking late defeat. Relegation-threatened Argyle had taken a half-time lead with goals from Chris Clark and Bradley Wright-Phillips, before Nicky Maynard's first goals of the year pulled City level. However, a late red card for Jamal Campbell-Ryce, for two bookings, led to City conceding again. "It was soul-destroying," said the City boss. "We have done it again with a last-minute goal. We didn't start well but we came out in the second half and gave it a go."

Nicky Maynard ended his goal drought in spectacular fashion with a brilliantly taken double, but City still returned from Home Park pointless. Having previously scored just once in 20 games, the youngster so nearly salvaged a much-needed point for Gary Johnson's side after they had trailed 2-0 at the break. But Carl Fletcher's 18-yard strike in the first minute of stoppage time consigned City to yet another away defeat. First half goals from Chris Clark and Bradley Wright-Phillips put Argyle ahead following a disjointed first half showing from the visitors.

Skipper Carl Fletcher scored a dramatic late goal as Argyle kept alive their hopes of escaping relegation with a thrilling victory over Bristol City at Home Park last night. The Pilgrims had seemed to be in cruise control when they took a 2-0 lead into half-time. But City hit back in the second period, as top scorer Nicky Maynard netted twice to put them on level terms. Then Fletcher settled the all-West Country clash with his fourth goal of the season in the first minute of stoppage time. It was a crucial win for Argyle, who are four points from safety with 10 games still to play this season.

Carl Fletcher netted a late winner as struggling Plymouth claimed only their fifth home league victory of the season against 10-man Bristol City. The Pilgrims looked on course for a straightforward three points when Chris Clark netted his first league goal for the club before Bradley Wright-Phillips doubled the advantage before the break. Nicky Maynard grabbed his first goals of 2010 to level matters, but Plymouth had the final say as Fletcher fired home a right-footed shot from 20 yards in the final minute. The result moves Plymouth, who last won a home match against the Robins six years ago, to within four points of third-bottom Scunthorpe, who travel to leaders Newcastle on Wednesday.

Stefan Maierhofer has voiced his frustration at not getting many opportunities to start this season. Wolves manager Mick McCarthy decided to loan the giant Austrian out to Bristol City earlier this week so he could play more regularly. Maierhofer has made just two starts and seven substitute appearances since moving to Molineux from Rapid Vienna last summer. He cannot understand why McCarthy has been so reluctant to give him a chance, especially with Wolves the lowest scorers in the Premier League this season. The 27-year-old admits the whole experience has left him feeling infuriated as well as confused. "I don't have a clue why I've not been in the team. I work hard in training, yet others get to play," Maierhofer said. "Why have Wolves signed me only to not use me? Kevin Doyle cost £6.5million, so he has to play yet he has just got six goals in 25 games, which is not a great deal."
