Bristol City look set to sign Wolves striker Stefan Stefan Maierhofer. Manager Gary Johnson has confirmed that Chris Iwelumo has returned to the Premier League club at the end of his loan deal. Maierhofer, an Austria international, is likely to put pen to paper in time for tomorrow night's game at Plymouth Argyle.

Bristol City boss Gary Johnson admitted his side were second best in defeat at the Madejski Stadium. Icelandic international Gylfi Sigurdsson scored twice inside the opening 22 minutes to seal victory for in-form Reading, who ran out comfortable winners. And Johnson offered a brutally honest assessment when he declared: "We didn't do enough to be unlucky." It was a disappointing performance from a City side which had beaten Crystal Palace 1-0 at Selhurst Park four days earlier to move back into the top half of the Championship table. But the inconsistency which has become such a feature of a topsy-turvy season returned to haunt the Robins, who are now under pressure to return from struggling Plymouth with a result tomorrow night.

Will the real Bristol City please stand up and make itself known! Outstanding in victory over automatic promotion contenders West Bromwich Albion only last month, the Robins arrived back to earth with a resounding bump when trounced 5-2 on home territory by mid-table Doncaster Rovers. No matter. Manager Gary Johnson and his players rolled up their sleeves and demonstrated resolve and character in spade loads to win 1-0 at Crystal Palace and silence those critics who predicted a looming relegation battle and subsequent change of regime. Given the manner in which City dominated in midweek, the 1,600 supporters who made the short journey to the Madejski Stadium had reason to believe they would receive value for money in the guise of a wholehearted and committed performance from their team. Prior to kick-off, talk was of City achieving back-to-back wins for the first time since October and re-establishing themselves in the top half of the Championship. Against such a backdrop, what followed could only be described as huge letdown.

Bristol City midfielder Paul Hartley has apologised to assistant manager Keith Millen after their weekend bust-up. Hartley conceded a penalty in the 21st minute as the Robins went down 2-0 to Reading at the Madejski Stadium on Saturday, after a shove on Royals striker Gylfi Sigurdsson. He clashed with Millen during a break in play but has now issued an apology to City's number two. "It was just frustrating and a few things were said over things that had happened in the game," he said. "I wasn't happy, he wasn't happy and we both made our point. Football leaves you on the edge at times, but it was all in the heat of the moment. I've apologised and it's all forgiven and forgotten now."

Yeovil Town romped to a 4-0 victory over Hartlepool United on Saturday with a great team performance - but it was Gavin Williams who grabbed the headlines. Williams, making his debut for the Glovers since returning to the club from Bristol City on loan, scored an exquisite free-kick to put Yeovil 2-0 up in the 39th minute. He then played a leading role in Yeovil's third goal when his lob over the keeper hit the woodwork and bounced into the net off of Hartlepool's unlucky Sam Collins for an own goal just after the start of the second period. But the day was to end on a sour note for Williams when he received a red card in the 65th minute for reacting after being the victim of a bad challenge by Andy Monkhouse.

Plymouth Argyle are set to have defenders Onismor Bhasera and Bondz N'Gala both available for the visit of Bristol City to Home Park tomorrow. Bhasera, a Zimbabwe international left-back, has signed a contract with the Pilgrims until the summer of 2012. It comes after Argyle made a successful appeal to an independent tribunal that the 23-year-old should be allowed a UK work permit. Bhasera has been training with the Pilgrims for the past month, after severing his ties with his former club, top South African side Kaiser Chiefs.
