THURSDAY'S PRESS TALK

Posted on: Thu 04 Mar 2010

Evander Sno has emerged as Bristol City's latest potential long-term absentee. The Dutch midfielder, signed on loan from Ajax at the start of the season, had hoped to recover from a back injury in time to be considered for Saturday's Coca-Cola Championship fixture against Doncaster Rovers at Ashton Gate. But the 22-year-old former Holland Under-21 international has made a slower-than-expected recovery and, in the worst case scenario, could be sidelined for another fortnight. Sno had to be carried off the Vicarage Road pitch on a stretcher after injuring his back during the warm-up, just minutes before City's game at Watford on February 9. City's medical staff diagnosed back spasms, a problem Sno had suffered from previously.

Bristol City midfielder Marvin Elliott is set to return to action in the next fortnight after a knee injury proved less serious than first feared. There were concerns he might have been sidelined for six weeks after suffering ligament damage before Saturday's game against Ipswich. The 25-year-old has made 23 league starts so far this season for City.

Bristol City have been handed a huge boost by the news striker Nicky Maynard has declared himself fit for Saturday's home clash with Doncaster. Maynard has not started a game for the Robins since sustaining a thigh problem against Coventry at the beginning of February, but was fit enough to come off the bench in the home games with Leicester and West Brom. The forward was then ruled out of last weekend's goalless draw against Ipswich but, after netting twice for the reserves on Tuesday, he is now raring to go. "I feel ready to start and play a full game if selected," he said.

City are describing the news that Marvin Elliott will be out for two weeks as positive - because it could have been much longer. The Robins feared Elliott could be out for six weeks if ligament damage was discovered in his knee, but scans have since shown that it is not that bad. Manager Gary Johnson said: "It's the lesser of the evils and it's not as bad as feared.
