WEDNESDAY'S PRESS TALK

Posted on: Wed 03 Mar 2010

Bristol City striker Nicky Maynard edged back to full fitness by netting a brace in the reserves' 3-0 win over Swansea on Tuesday afternoon. Maynard missed last weekend's goalless draw against Ipswich but showed why he is valued so highly by the Robins with two goals before half-time.

Nicky Maynard is in no doubt he is ready to face Doncaster Rovers at Ashton Gate on Saturday if called upon. Bristol City's 11-goal top scorer has not started a Coca-Cola Championship game since suffering a thigh injury in the 1-1 home draw against Coventry on February 6. But the 22-year-old striker confirmed his recovery by scoring twice and terrorising Swansea's defence in yesterday's Totesport.com Combination reserve fixture at City's Failand training headquarters.

Gary Johnson has bemoaned his Bristol City side's run of bad luck on the injury front this season, saying he has "never seen anything like it". Brian Wilson, Jamie McCombe, Marvin Elliott and Evander Sno are all struggling with injury while Patrick Agyemang and James Wilson are still recovering from a virus that recently hit the club.
